Defining Purpose with Brent Rollins at RSi
The leaders of the most well-respected brands spend a good deal of time ensuring the Purpose and Core Values of their Companies are defined and routinely reinforced at a leadership level as well as triggered for cascading influence across, up, and down throughout the organization. We asked our Chief Executive Officer, Brent D. Rollins, to address the topic.
RSi’s employees – and many of our clients – are quite familiar with our 5 Core Values: Growth; Candor; Team over Individual; No Blaming, Complaining or Defending; and No ROI, No Spend. Our Values are living and breathing and not just occasionally discussed. At RSi, it’s nearly impossible to avoid talking about at least one of these values in any given meeting, one-on-one discussion, or other interaction. Why? Because we know that adhering to these Values creates personal and professional success for our workforce. Every. Single. Day.

But what about our Purpose? How do we define Purpose at RSi? It is not the mission statement nor the vision. It is inclusive and involves everyone. It is greater than any goal. It is not about money or success, although those are intrinsic to its nature, otherwise we would not thrive as we have. RSi as a living brand is evidence that being a “Purpose-Driven” business leads to excellence. Being a purpose-driven brand means that we are better able to attract, retain, and engage top talent, foster a heightened capacity for innovation and creative disruption, increase sales, and elevate employee engagement and development. The measure of RSi’s success over time is about whether or not we’re actively creating a workplace where people can have fun, grow together, and take great care of our clients. That’s the bar for us.
After nearly 10 years with RSi, I still learn something new every day, have fun with my colleagues, and enjoy working across our departments to ensure that we do our best for our clients. During the past 8-10 years, we have seen the company go through its most prolific period of growth. Bottom line revenue growth. Headcount growth. Clientele growth. We have all grown as individuals as well and have continued to evolve and adapt to changing circumstances. As a team, we’ve kept a smile on our faces while doing it. Not always easy. We continue to increase the strength of our customer relationships, expansion of our services (welcome, Invicta Health Solutions), and develop more leaders throughout the organization. This is the result of countless individual efforts coming together, all while embracing our own RSi version of fun and teamwork. These benchmarks are metrics of our shared Purpose and how it has made us stronger than ever.
Like other businesses, we serve people, help people, and work with people every day. At RSi, we best serve ourselves and others when we create and nurture a space in which we want to work and build relationships with both co-workers and clientele that go beyond the bounds of business. When we act and work intentionally and diligently, our Purpose is assured to be shown. This year, RSi earned the first-ever Best in KLAS award for RCM Debt Collection Services and a Top Workplace award. These are not happy accidents. Neither of these would have happened if our leadership was not in complete alignment on our Purpose and our Values.
Every day brings new opportunities to grow, to collaborate, to innovate, and to celebrate the diverse environment that makes up RSi. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far and even more excited about where we are headed….with Purpose.
